Hydraulic Hardline for NMDC Sinter Plant Granulator

Jagadalapur, Chattisgarh

2017

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), a Government of India enterprise and major iron ore producer, was developing its Nagarnagar Steel Plant in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.

As part of the project, NMDC awarded the turnkey development of the Sinter Plant to a consortium, with Primetals, Austria responsible for the Sinter Plant.

Primetals selected Tube-Mac non-welded piping technology for the hydraulic hardline serving the plant’s hydraulic granulator.

Cenergy Offshore was responsible for the installation of the pre-fabricated hydraulic piping system at site under the supervision of its field team.

The project involved approximately 350 metres of hydraulic piping, designed for a system pressure of 315 bar, covering pressure, return, drain and flushing lines.

Scope of Work

The hydraulic granulator required a high-pressure hydraulic piping system that could reliably connect the hydraulic equipment while conforming to the plant layout.

The project required:

  • Approximately 350 metres of hydraulic hardline
  • Four hydraulic lines — pressure, return, drain and flushing
  • System pressure of 315 bar
  • Pipe sizes of 4-inch NPS and 80 mm metric
  • Integration with the hydraulic power unit
  • Installation within the defined Sinter Plant layout
  • A pre-fabricated piping solution for efficient site installation

The piping system also had to be installed with a high level of accuracy to ensure reliable connections between the hydraulic hardline and the granulator equipment.

Execution

Cenergy Offshore implemented a pre-fabricated non-welded hydraulic hardline piping system using Tube-Mac technology.

The system incorporated:

  • 37° Flare Flange System
  • Retain Ring Flange System

The complete piping system was manufactured as pre-fabricated pipe spools at TMI’s facility in Austria and shipped to Jagdalpur for installation.

This approach reduced the requirement for extensive pipe fabrication at site and allowed the installation team to work from an engineered and pre-defined piping arrangement.

Piping Design & Pre-Fabrication

The hydraulic hardline was designed and supplied as a pre-fabricated piping system based on the requirements of the hydraulic granulator.

The completed system consisted of approximately 350 metres of piping across four hydraulic lines:

  • Pressure
  • Return
  • Drain
  • Flushing

The piping incorporated 4-inch NPS and 80 mm metric pipe sizes and was designed for a system pressure of 315 bar.

Following fabrication at TMI’s Austrian facility, the pipe spools were shipped to the NMDC Nagarnagar Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh for installation.

Pre-fabrication provided a controlled manufacturing environment and allowed the site installation to focus on accurate positioning and assembly of the completed pipe spools.

Installation

The pre-fabricated hydraulic hardline was installed at the Sinter Plant under the supervision of a Cenergy Offshore supervisor.

The pipe spools were carefully positioned and assembled according to the piping arrangement and equipment connection requirements.

Cenergy Offshore field personnel also carried out measurements during the installation process to verify dimensions and ensure that the piping could be accurately integrated with the plant equipment and hydraulic power unit.

The completed hardline was connected to the hydraulic equipment serving the granulator.

Quality & Installation Supervision

Because the hydraulic hardline formed part of a critical industrial process system, installation quality and connection integrity were important considerations.

Cenergy Offshore supervised the erection of the pre-fabricated piping and ensured that the pipe spools and connections were installed according to the required arrangement.

The installation process focused on maintaining accurate routing and reliable mechanical connections throughout the hydraulic system.

Project Outcome

Cenergy Offshore successfully completed the installation of approximately 350 metres of pre-fabricated non-welded hydraulic hardline for the hydraulic granulator at NMDC’s Nagarnagar Steel Plant.

The system was designed for 315 bar pressure and comprised four hydraulic lines covering pressure, return, drain and flushing requirements.

The use of Tube-Mac’s non-welded piping technology and pre-fabricated pipe spools enabled the hydraulic piping to be manufactured in a controlled facility and subsequently installed at the steel plant under Cenergy Offshore supervision.

The completed hardline was successfully integrated with the hydraulic equipment serving the granulator, providing the required hydraulic piping infrastructure for the Sinter Plant.
